Edit: Finally got the colors finished! And added Kamen wearing his headphones. XD
And~ this is what happens when good boys invite wild, randy Loa in!
Today marks Klaxon's one year anniversary here on deviantART, and since I don't know how folks normally choose their OC's birth dates, I'm officially making this day his birthday. Because it just makes sense to me, being the day he was brought into the world. So Bòn Fèt (Happy Birthday in Creole) to Klax!!
I wanted to at least post something of the little Medium, and I figured this was as good as any, despite the fact it's only lines right now; I didn't have the time to complete it, but the flats are nearly done so I may update this soon-ish with some color. For now, you guys get a glimpse of my art stages. XD
Some facts for the curious:
Klaxon sometimes smells like tobacco, even though he himself doesn't smoke. In Voodoo, tobacco (whether loose or rolled) is often used to purify and cleanse, a spiritual process similar to Native American smudging rituals. In many New Orleans ceremonies, priests and priestesses will use a cigar to "fumigate" members before beginning.
Not an ordained Voodoo priest, Klaxon leans on being a Vessel for Loa (Voodoo deities) to practice. Cigars are favored by certain Loa as offerings, so when Klax harbors, say, Baron Samedi, head of the Ghede Loa family, the Baron does smoke in his body.
Possession by a Loa induces amnesia. Part of the human's conscious soul (gros bon anj) is carefully "set aside" because it cannot be housed safely in the same vessel as a deity.
He still has his trademark Cadaver Eyes when "mounted" by a Loa, but in this possessed state his eyes also illuminate with power.
Ghede Loa are party animals without inhibitions! They've lived and died, and are now unafraid to return to this Plane to have a good time and speak their minds—and drink mad-amounts of rum steeped with as many hot peppers as inhumanely possible.Poor quiet, reserved boy... This is why he doesn't Voodoo often.
